They are All Heroes
We continue to hear about Pat Tillman, this time the Pentagon is denying the report that he was killed by friendly fire, and is standing by its story that he died while encountering the enemy. My problem with this has nothing to do with the way he died or the typical Rumsfeldesque head-in-the sand approach to accountability. I do not understand why we have placed this guy, Tillman, on a pedestal, making him a larger-than-life hero just because he used to play in the NFL. I know that he volunteered for this, but so did all of the others who died in this unnecessary, illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. None of these soldier’s lives are any less valuable than Tillman’s, just ask their families. Wake up America! Don’t let your fantasy grief for a former football player cloud the real issue – Iraq is a mess and a whole lot more people are going to die. If you support this “war” then go over there and die for what you believe in. Otherwise show your support for our troops by replacing your silly “look at me and how sensitive I am because I have a yellow ‘I support out troops’ metallic ribbon my car which means that I am better than you are because you don’t” ribbons with ones that say “Bring our troops home – NOW!”
