Say it Ain’t So
No one seems surprised that major league baseball players are now admitting that they use steroids, including me. But what does surprise me, no, it really sickens me, that so many people reacting to this say something like “This sends the wrong message to our children”. I hate to use an old and tired reaction to that statement but I must: PUHLEEESE! The hypocrisy is just dripping off that statement. Does no one consider the wrong message that all professional sports send the children by being in the back pockets of the makers and distributors of alcoholic beverages? I know, alcohol is legal for adults. But hey, guess what, so are steroids. You can consume alcohol as long as you meet the minimum age and you can take steroids as long as you have a prescription. I will bet that alcohol kills a lot more people annually than steroids, but since they do not bankroll the large salaries in major league sports everyone can act all incredulous about them, while getting hammered in a bar, driving home, and putting the public at risk. If I had to choose, I would legalize steroids and ban alcohol from all public places.
