A Morally Superior Waste of Money
Did you see what the presidential inauguration is going to cost? How about $45 million? Yep, all that money for 4 days of parties. I guess I can understand why these folks can be so happy, after all, their candidate was really elected this time (shhhh, don’t tell Ohio) so a 4-day celebration may be justified. But what puzzles me is that, if you believe the media, Bush “won” this election because of something called “moral values”. (I am still not sure what this phrase means, but that is a different topic.) So if he is really on the moral high ground shouldn’t everyone, especially his supporters, be questioning the moral value in wasting such a large sum of money on a big party for the elite? Wouldn’t it be quite refreshing for him to call a press conference (no questions unless he plants them, as usual, of course) to announce that there will be no parties this year. Instead the $45 million will be used to send the troops in Iraq the luxuries that they are asking for, like soap. (Soap! Can you believe it? Parent groups are putting “care packages” sending soldiers stuff that they have asked for and on the list is soap. $200 billion and you would think that somewhere in there we could ask Halliburton to distribute some soap, forget the fact that they would probably charge $10 for a each bar. At least our soldiers could have some SOAP!) But Bush would never do this because he has to reward his “base” with an unnecessary series of parties. A nice night at home with his Stepford wife just won’t do.
