Time Off for Off-Hour Travel?

On January 28 federal employees will be given time off when they travel for business on personal time. Wow! That's a really efficient thing for the Bush administration to push through. Does this mean that he will be spending even more time away from the most important job in the world?

Those of us in the private sector should not expect this any time soon, or more accurately, EVER. The corporate powers would never let something like this pass for the general working slugs. It would eat into their profits and, possibly but not likely, reduce their obscene bonuses.

For anyone who resents traveling during their personal time for their job, I say GET ANOTHER JOB! You do not have to do this. It is just like any other aspect of the job, if you do not like it then head for the door.

I'm not a federal employee. They do get paid WAY less than the private sector and often have to account in minute ways for each hour they spend at work. Getting some comp. time for travel hours spent taking the cheapest flights and staying in the crapiest hotels at the government rate is the least their employer can do for them. And on your get another job suggestion, most of them are doing just that. So.....in order keep a workforce happy, their employer is trying a fairly economical perk. As a worker in the private sector, my employer is not surprised if I take an hour or two off after arriving back in town from Asia at 4AM, nor am I am expected to make this time up. If you're in a private sector job where you don't get the same perks, perhaps you should be looking for another job yourself.

Based on the fact that I have been traveling virtually non-stop for 6 years, if I could get time off for off-hours travel I think I could retire now.
