Of Our Time

Once again Bush and all of his blindly-allegiant followers miss the point, this time by failing to read or, more likely, understand Amnesty International’s statement “Guantanamo has become the gulag of our time” Do they not understand that the “of our time” is as important to the statement’s point as is the word “gulag”? Probably, but their calculated response focuses on “gulag” as they act all incredulous that such a statement can be made about their holier-than-thou administration. It is a brilliant defense of deflection by a miserable failure in the White House, by a man who cannot recognize, or at least admit, that stripping detainees of their freedom, not telling them why they are being held, not permitting them legal representation, and putting them through mental and physical torture, could be viewed as a modern-day gulag, or a “gulag of our times”.

The only consolation is that there are only 1,325 days until a new president is inaugurated, unless by some miracle this guy can be thrown out before then.
