Finally, Enron Justice, or is it?

I read in the Houston Chronicle today that they expect the sentencing for Lay and Skilling, each facing 100+ years maximum sentences, to actually come down at 12 to 25 years. Wow. Add that to the fact that they are freely walking around like you and me until September 11. What is going on here? Why is it taking so long to issue a sentence for these guys? Do you really think that the judge will work on this sentence for the next 109 days?

Here is my take - Judges run in the same circles as the corporate honchos, plus they receive tons of campaign dollars from these same people. This guy could have easily sent Kenny Boy and Jeff away yesterday or next week, but a 'professional courtesy' has kicked in, and they are giving them the summer to get all of the stolen money hidden or untouchable, in case they decide to also fine these guys. Add this time to the time that they are out awaiting their appeals and that should take them up to about the end of 2008, at which time the guy that they helped put in the White House can pardon them, something that I predicted here on 1/15/2006.

Let's get back to 12 to 25 years. Of course this will be on the low side of the range, so assuming it will be 12 years, that means that they will be eligible for parole sometime sooner than that. I have no idea what the rules on this are but let's say it is 6 years and they are out, how's that for punishing the guys who ruined thousands of lives and careers?

I have to say that if I could get away with stashing away hundreds of millions or more than a billion dollars that I could steal from a company and only spend 6 years in jail, where I would hang out, read, lift weights, play some b-ball, and write a few books, so that my family could be financially secure for generations to come, I would do it. These guys are brilliant! And our legal system is letting them get away with it, all while everyone rejoices that they were convicted.

But as to justice being served in the Enron thing, I don't think so.
